The trails are long, winding. The forest quiet. The trees tall and towering. My mind has recently discovered pre-flight anxiety and the walk seems to calm it down for a bit.
Introducing a new blog series, Mug Shot. On each of our little adventures, Team C&C picks up a coffee mug. Sometimes a cute one, sometimes the most tourist-y looking one we can find. And each time we pick one up for our morning coffee, they remind us of our favorite moments in that place, or maybe something funny that happened. So pick up your morning coffee and join us for a snapshot of our travels.
We are headed to Auckland, New Zealand, nearly a 17 hour flight. Our adventure starts in San Francisco, where we have the day before our flight leaves. Muir Woods is calling our name.
Muir Woods National Monument recommends you come with a plan, some water and a map. We had some sort of plan, which was to just show up and walk (Kids, this does not pass as a plan). We did not have map. What kind of millenials would we be if we did? We did bring water (we’re not that naive). We stuck to the shorter trails, knowing we had to get on a plane later that day and didn’t want to get lost in the miles and miles of forest.
If you know Mr. C&C at all, you know he loves beaches. He is never happier than he is when he’s on an ocean beach.
A few miles away we found Muir Beach. With just a few tourists, the only sound you could hear were the seagulls and waves. And my husband’s giggle as the waves washed over his feet and soaked his jeans.
With still a few hours to spare, we headed back in town for lunch, chocolate, and a walk around the Fisherman’s Wharf before heading to the airport to endure our long flight to NZ.
